Michael Zaroukian, MD, PhD, MACP, FHIMSS, FAMIA is a board-certified clinical informaticist and general internist. He served as Vice President and Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) at Sparrow Health System (2011-2022) in Lansing, MI.
Dr. Zaroukian is also Professor Emeritus of Medicine at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine (MSU-CHM), where he was CMIO from 2002-2011. Dr. Zaroukian previously served as Chair of the HIMSS Enterprise Board of Directors (2017-2018), and the HIMSS North America Board of Directors (2016-2017). He has also served on the HIMSS Enterprise Information Systems Committee, chaired the HIMSS Ambulatory Information Systems Committee, and was a member of the HIMSS Nominating Committee. He currently serves on the HIMSS Analytics North America Advisory Committee.
Dr. Zaroukian has served on informatics-related National Academy of Medicine committees, as well as ONC Health IT Policy and Standards Committee workgroups and taskforces. He is also a member of the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems (AMDIS) Board of Advisors. Dr. Zaroukian previously served on the AMA Health IT Advisory Group, as well as chair of the American College of Physicians (ACP) Medical Informatics Committee. He has been designated a Master of the College (MACP).
A recipient of the 2010 HIMSS Physician IT Leadership Award, Dr. Zaroukian received a "Top 25 Clinical Informaticists" award from Modern Healthcare in 2012 and an "Innovation Advocate Award" from Healthcare Informatics and AMDIS in 2013. He was also named "Physician of the Year" by Sparrow Health System in 2014. Dr. Zaroukian was named in the 2014 Becker's Hospital Review article: "26 of the Smartest People in Health IT" and again in 2022 by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of "33 inspiring chief transformation officers in healthcare." in 2024, Dr. Zaroukian received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Michigan Chapter of the American College of Physicians.
